Puppy Preschool will make an invaluable contribution to your dog’s development! We will show you how to stop play biting, crate train your puppy, housebreak your puppy, and offer insightful knowledge on how puppies think and the pack mentality.
Puppy training begins the moment you bring your new puppy home. Every year more than 5 million pets are euthanized in this country, mostly by owners who got off to a bad start with a new pet. This program seeks to teach new puppy owners how they can influence and shape the behavior of their growing puppy.
Puppy Preschool or some call it Puppy Classes (for puppies 8 to 16 weeks)
These classes offer excercises in socialization, confidence-building, and handling for you and your puppy as well as solutions for basic problem solving. Other owner educational topics include food/toy possessiveness, aggression, jumping, fear imprinting, basic grooming, and first aid. The ultimate goal of these sessions is to guide you and your puppy in the critical communication process and development of trust that is essential to your relationship. Your puppy will also gain a better understanding of what is appropriate behavior around other people and dogs.
Manners Matter (for puppies 4 to 8 months)
This class is for graduates of our puppy preschool or owners of puppies over 16 weeks who want more guidance in managing puppy behvior before beginning formal obedience training. The overall goal of this class is to enhance and nurture the bond between owner and puppy thru the development of meaningful manners. Instilling basic behaviors before beginning formal obedience bridges the gap for the immature puppy brain that lacks focus yet benefits from consistent guidance. Topics to include enhanced eye contact and focus, appropriate play and greeting excercises, techniques for loose leash walking, name recognition, and reliable shaping of the recall command.
Puppy Preschool Enrollment Process
1. Private Puppy Consultation
This is a personalized meeting with one of our trainers to evaluate your puppy’s personality and temperament. We will provide direction and guidance based on your puppy’s breed and the information gathered during this meeting. We will also offer behavioral counseling with regards to house breaking, play biting, and chewing as well as answer any questions you have about your puppy or puppy preschool. You will receive a puppy owner’s manual at this time, and at the completion of this meeting, you and your puppy will be eligible to participate in our weekly preschool sessions.
2. Health and Vaccination Requirements
Owners are required to have their puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian prior to attending the private puppy consultation. Each puppy also must have completed at least the 1st round of vaccinations prior to this meeting. Owners shall provide the necessary documents showing the puppy is in good health and current on vaccinations.
3. Puppy PreSchool Registration
Upon completion of the private consultation and receipt of documents for health and vaccination requirements, you and your puppy will be enrolled in our puppy preschool. Prior to beginning classes, your puppy must have been in your home for at least 7 days.
