Boarding Services

Thank you for choosing Kasten’s Dog Training for boarding your dog. We look forward to meeting you both!

Our kennel care staff makes every effort to care for your dog through following the instructions provided, documenting general intake and elimination, and providing engagement and activity for your dog.

The standard rate for boarding is $39/day, or any portion of a day. An additional fee of $5/day will be added during peak seasons and holidays. Discounts are available by purchasing a boarding pass for 10, 20, or 30 days that are valid for 1 year from the date of purchase. Contact us for more information regarding boarding passes.

Below we have listed answers to many of the questions we have heard over the years.

General Questions

This page will answer your question. Think, less is best! Your dog, collar, leash, and enough food for your dog’s complete stay plus 2 – 3 days of meals, in case of delays for your return.

In order to increase overall quality of kennel life and interaction with your dog, in the fall of 2022, we began including an activity with the price of boarding.  For each full day boarding*, the boarding rate now includes an activity which may be one of the following, depending on weather, your dog’s needs, and your directives.

  • a daily activity in the courtyard or an indoor training room,
  • refresher training for dogs trained by KDT**, or
  • a walk around the property

An additional walk, refresher or activity may be purchased for $14. You may select this daily, every other day or you may specify.

Monday through Saturday, if you pick your dog(s) up by 10 AM, you will receive a $10 discount/dog on your invoice as there will be no scheduled activity for the dog that day. This may be deducted from your total due day of pick up or remain as a credit on your account for future purchases if you are paying with a previously purchased package.

* Drop-off days will not include an activity. We recommend time for the dog to “settle in” prior to adding activity.

** You must bring your training tools to the boarding in order for your dog to receive refresher training. if training leash and/or collar are not present, “Sparky” will still get a walk or play with kennel care staff.

Absolutely, in fact we encourage you to visit.  Call us at 574-522-7050 to schedule your tour.

Doggie Social Distancing is our owners avoiding their dog’s exposure to other dogs and places where other dogs have likely been where germs and viruses are more prevalent.  Although your dog is fully vaccinated, just like with the human flu vaccine, any dog can pick up a strain of the kennel cough virus and bring it into Kasten’s training center. To protect all dogs at the facility, 10 days prior to coming to Kasten’s Dog Training, we request that you avoid: the groomer, pet stores, dog parks, other kennel/training facilities, pet friendly stores, the neighbor’s dog, and the dogs of friends and family.

We will ask you before boarding your dogs from the same household if you would like them to stay in the same kennel together.  Dogs boarded in the same kennel together must be able to eat their meals together.  Kasten’s Dog Training reserves the right to separate dogs kenneling together for any reason including but not limited to: aggression, resource guarding, being disruptive, illness/injury, etc. There is no difference in boarding rate.

Dogs and puppies older than 17 weeks may be boarded at Kasten’s Dog Training at the standard rate for adult dogs.

For puppies younger than 17 weeks of age at the start of the boarding period we offer puppy residency programs which assist you with housebreaking, crate training, play biting, chewing, leash work, basic commands, and more.  Please see our All Things Puppy page for more information.

Our office is closed on major holidays (New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day).  We still provide kennel care and training on all major holidays but do not offer customer service, drop-off service, or pick-up service.

New Year’s Eve the office is open from 8 AM to Noon for check in and check out.

Christmas Eve the office is open from 8 AM to Noon for check in and check out.

Health and Vaccinations

In the case of illness or injury, Kasten’s Dog Training will attempt to contact you and/or your emergency contact(s).  In the event you cannot be reached, we will assume the responsibility to seek medical attention, guided by the amount listed in your boarding contract.  We will make every attempt for care with your veterinarian; however, we reserve the right to choose any veterinary clinic.  All veterinary costs incurred will be the responsibility of the dog’s owner.

We require:

  • Distemper – given at least 72 hours prior to arrival and renewed every 1-3 years
  • Parvo – given at least 72 hours prior to arrival and renewed every 1-3 years
  • Rabies – given at least 72 hours prior to arrival and renewed every 1-3 years
  • Bordetella – Oral given at least 7 days prior to arrival and renewed yearly, nasal given at least 10 days prior to arrival and renewed yearly, or intravenous given at least 14 days prior to arrival and renewed yearly.

You must drop off or email your vaccination records to us prior to arrival, preferably 10 days or more prior.  You may register for our online reservation portal and upload your vaccines directly to your pet’s file. Lastly, many veterinarians will email your dog’s vaccination records on your behalf.  Our email address is sales@kastensdogtraining.com

It is preferred that your dog be spayed or neutered before any training or boarding session; however, it is not a requirement.  Female dogs in heat will not be allowed at Kasten’s Dog Training for training or boarding until their cycle is complete.  Should a  female go into heat during a boarding stay, they will be quarantined and the owner will incur additional charges due to extra cleaning, extra supplies, and additional effort involved with our staff.  If a female training dog goes into heat during their training program, their training will be postponed then resumed once their cycle is complete.   Each day a female dog in heat is in our facility is $75.

We do not charge a fee to administer medications your dog is required to take.  Please make sure you bring enough medication for their entire stay and that all medications are clearly labeled with dosage instructions.  We are able to administer injections.

*** NOTE *** If there is a time-consuming process or non-routine care is required, a charge of $5 per event will be assessed.

Reservations and Charges

During off peak, non-holiday periods, 1 – 3 weeks notice is adequate. See Doggie Social Distancing guidelines and vaccine policy for other considerations.

We recommend calling at least 4 months in advance for all major holidays and spring break. One month in advance for weekend and summer boarding. For holidays and peak season periods, such as spring break and Christmas break, a $60.00 non-refundable deposit is required (see calendar for holiday/peak period dates).

If your plans should change in the meantime, just call us at least three days in advance to cancel your reservation. Holiday deposits will be forfeited.  There is no cancellation fee for canceling non-peak period dates.

We have kennel care staff on-site 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The rate for boarding and adult dog (over 18 weeks) is $39/day or any portion of a day; there is an additional charge of $5/day during holidays and peak seasons, such as the local high schools’ spring break. A 15-min activity is included in the price of boarding; this is either a refresher training or a walk, if your dog was not previously trained at KDT.  The rate for boarding a puppy, 8 to 17 weeks of age, is $75/day which includes the puppy being taken out on a leash to potty on grass every two hours for potty training during the day.

Your dog is let out to potty first thing in the morning and last thing at night. They have 3 – 4 additional potty opportunities throughout the day.  A trained kennel care staff member escorts your dog to and from an outdoor potty run on a leash.  Your dog will be fed their own food 1, 2, or 3 times a day – according to your instructions.  Your dog will have access to fresh water during the day.  We will administer your dog’s medications on their specific schedule (for more information about medications see section on Health and Vaccinations above).  We wash food and water bowls after each use.  We have a refrigerator available for cold food and medication.  Our facility is monitored by a security system and cameras; the owner lives on site.

We bill dog boarding by day, meaning, each day, or any portion of the day, your dog is in our facility counts as a day regardless of drop off or pick up time. Dogs 18 weeks and over are $39/day and puppies 8 to 17 weeks are billed $75/day. Puppies are provided leash work and potty training, going out on a leash every 2 hours during the day to work on potty training. Peak season and trainer only rates still apply.

For example, if you drop Fido off at 6 PM on Friday evening and pick them up at 8 AM on Saturday morning you will be billed for 2 days of boarding. Monday through Saturday, $10.00 per dog will be deducted from your invoice, if you pick up prior to 10:00 AM.
